From I Woke Up Like This Mondays at Noon to The Diva Hour Fridays at 6 pm, WRMC has its fair share of divalicious programming. On this week’s show spotlight we checked in with WRMC’s youngest female pop-star enthusiasts, DJs Alyssa Taylor ’17, Addis Fouche-Channer ’17, and Sasha “Fiercey” Whittle ’17. They are girls, they run, they love Beyoncé, and every Wednesday on WRMC they play nothing but female voices from 12-1 pm on their aptly titled show, Run the World.
WRMC: What’s the theme of your show?
Empowered female artists. If you listen closely you can hear the girl power, fierceness, and friendship
WRMC: Who are run the world’s go-to divas?
We all have different but similar taste in music, but we definitely all love Beyonce, Robyn, and Lana [del Rey].
WRMC: You guys all run cross country and track at Middlebury, did this factor in when you picked your show title?
Well… It was 5:52 pm on the day radio show applications were due and the site closed at 6:00. We were on the track bus when it dawned on us so we panicked and started trying to think of a theme. We’re all runners and we all love the Beyoncé song “Run the World (Girls)“, so that ended up helping us figure out our show’s theme, which is basically kick ass women and the songs that they sing because who doesn’t like hot, talented, dedicated women?

RUN THE WORLD QUICK PICKS –
Ol’ faithful throwback:
Sasha: “Bills Bills Bills” by Destiny’s Child
Alyssa: “Rehab” by Amy Winehouse
Addis: “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” by Eve ft. Gwen Stefani
Guilty Pleasure:
Sasha: “Move” by Little Mix
Alyssa: “Call Your Girlfriend” by Robyn WRMC: Never feel guilty about this.
Addis: “Temperature” by Sean Paul because it was the first song I ever downloaded on iTunes and Sean Paul was also my first concert. Is he coming out with anything new soon?
Best New Track/Current Obsession:
Sasha: I know it’s not new– but “Marathon” by Tennis has been my obsession recently- probably because it’s one of the few songs I can hit all the notes in.
Alyssa: Have to say “Partition” on the new Beyoncé album. Sorry to be so predictable.
Addis: “You’re Not Good Enough” by Blood Orange

WRMC: What is the most played song in your iTunes library and why?
Sasha: Well, after just checking I am embarrassed to say that it is “Tide Is High” by Atomic Kitten…I was really hoping for something to make me seem cool and hip. I went through a phase after I saw the Lizzie McGuire Movie when I was in middle school and that song became the go-to in all situations. I guess you could say it’s still a go to.
Alyssa: Wow I’m with Sasha on this one. Mine is “Primadonna Girl” by Marina and the Diamonds, which we actually played on our show a couple of weeks ago. This fall if I was walking around campus with my headphones in, 9 out of 10 times it was that song.
Addis: “Crimewave” by Crystal Castles and Health because I put this song on repeat and blast it when I’m editing photos for my class. It makes me feel like I should be in a dark motel room doing lines of a new experimental drug or something. I dig it, I dig it.
WRMC: What’s your ultimate pump up song before races?
Sasha: “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson because it makes me feel like if I don’t run fast I’m being a weakling.
Alyssa: “Wavin’ Flag” by K’naan. Yes, it’s the song from the coca-cola commercials but it just helps me stay positive and gets me pumped.
Addis: “Stay Schemin’” by Rick Ross. Did you know he has a chain of himself wearing a chain of himself?
