Just like Bryson, Kerouac, and London, members of WRMC will venture into the wild next week. Unlike these male only trips into the woods, we are going into the depths of the concrete jungle. It’s CMJ time, and for those of you not looking at floods of charting and adds emails, here’s the thing about CMJ:

CMJ, from my limited experience, but endless internet proof, is a festival that aims to expose music enjoyers to new sounds and up and coming artists. The festival runs for about a week in October, spreading across Brooklyn and a pinch of other New York City venues. This sprawling, marathon event sounds like the ultimate escape, especially for those anticipating that sub-zero-cabin-fever-why-did-I-do-this-to-myself kind of winter, but here’s the thing… you can’t go to everything.

In less than a week, seven WRMC members will write their own bildungsroman by attempting to attend an obscene amount of shows, conferences, panels, and events hosted by numerous record labels, promoters, venues, and the like.

It pains me to put limitations on the Multitasking-Millennial™ but in the case of CMJ you may just have to pick one show over the other. This can be hard especially if you expect to eat, sleep, and meet cool people. So, instead of filling that headspace with confusion and tension, here’s a preview playlist of some bands we’re looking forward to seeing this year at CMJ:

Brandi Fullwood is one of WRMC’s two Music Directors. She hosts a new music show called “Lost & Found” with her other Music Director half, Rachael Morris, Sundays 9:00-10:30 on WRMC. When she’s not music directing, Brandi can be found on twitter beefing with Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend.
