It’s been a good month for women and it’s been a good month for music.  Kim Gordon‘s memoir, Girl in a Band, hit bookstore shelves in late February, and this past week Carrie Brownstein announced that her memoir, Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl, will come out in the fall.  Brownstein recently did a hilarious live interview with Gordon, in which the two discuss the pervasive and engrained tendency to label any female artist as a “girl in a band” rather than referring to or conceiving of female musicians regardless of their gender, among many other topics.  Below are some of the best songs to come out as of late from my favorite role models, who just so happen to be girls who are also in bands.  The playlist kicks off with Downtown Boys’ brand new anthem “Monstro” and ends with my favorite Sleater-Kinney song ever.

These aren’t Spotify at the moment but are oh so good:

Bully – I Remember

Slutever – Open Wide

Free Cake For Every Creature – All You Gotta Be When You’re 23

Grimes – REALiTi
