Just felt like quickly posting about some of the music I’ve been listening to lately. New York City natives Run the Jewels’ new album “Run the Jewels” (I know, creative name) combines punk rock sounds with hip hop rhythms to accompany El-P and Killer Mike’s syncopated verses. It stands out as a unique rap album that introduces new beats and grungy lyrics that criticize the bourgeois music industry and call for a “revised” approach to making it big as a rapper. These guys also don’t fail to articulate their appreciation for the godfathers of older rap like Outkast. Run the Jewels’ duo make an incredible dynamic through give-and-go verses. Their album can also be purchased on the their website by donation starting at $1 which is pretty great. If you get a chance to check them out you should. Below is their music video for one of the songs, “36” Chain.” enjoy
